Axis and StakeOut deliver goods for Road Runners

The days of watching untold hours of redundant video, either live, or recorded, are over! When freight company, Road Runners' boss, Chris Young gets a phone call about suspicious activity at any of his four Tasmanian depots, he turns on his computer instead of calling the police.

Thanks to groundbreaking technology developed in Tasmania, Mr. Young is able to check the cause of the disturbance via a series of cameras at each site before deciding whether to authorize an inspection by security guards or police. In an industry where an estimated 85% of callouts are false alarms, the ability to check unusual activity via the Internet or computer network is big news.

Unlike traditional security systems that send an alarm whenever motion is detected, StakeOut sends a video image instead, accompanied by an email message or SMS to a mobile phone or computer. By checking the image, the viewer can decide whether the event has been accidental or requires further investigation. The system is so precise it can detect a mouse scurrying across the floor of a warehouse the size of a football field.

Road runners' 4 Tasmania depots use Axis 2120 Network Cameras with StakeOut Surveillance System to provide the quality of image the client demands. "The low cost of entry afforded by the StakeOut platform gives the client the opportunity to use a better quality camera platform without blowing the budget," said Protocol State Manager, Phil Collidge.

"Road Runners are delighted with the performance of their Axis cameras. They have installed at all sites & found that they can cover very large areas with relatively few cameras. Their main depot is over 1500 square metres and they monitor the entire site with two Axis 2120 cameras. Axis is becoming the camera platform of choice for our clients. When a client wants to leverage off their existing network investment, Axis invariably wins the day. They give unparallel image quality and performance at more than comparable pricing. We recommend them to our clients every time."

This project is realised in cooperation with Alloys International, Protocol Information Technology and StakeOut in Australia.
